THE CITIZENS’ HEARINGS 2015
In 2015, White Ribbon Alliance, International Planned Parenthood Federation, Save the Children, and World Vision partnered to support citizens and civil society across the world in calling on governments to account for their delivery on Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5, as well as more specific commitments made under the UN Secretary General’s initiative, Every Woman Every Child.
To date, over 100 Citizens’ Hearings took place in over 20 countries, and recommendations from these events are being shared with ministers of health, ministers of foreign affairs, and other political leaders. The outcomes of the Hearings have also been submitted as feedback into the process for the updated Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s Health and have been used to set the agenda for the Global Citizens’ Hearing that was held at the World Health Assembly in May 2015.
The Citizens’ Hearings outcomes demonstrate the effectiveness of citizen led accountability at district, national and global levels, and help to ensure the new Sustainable Development Goals include strong accountability mechanisms to make sure these new targets are delivered.
Join us in this exciting project helping civil society and citizens to hold governments to account!
