“During night hours the baby spends the entire night with my sister-in-law. I visit him during the day. However, I know he is safe but I feel very bad when he cries and I am not there to help. This happens during night hours,” says Gerald.
Commenting on whether the government is doing enough to address the reduction of maternal, new-born and child deaths, Rose Mlay the National Coordinator of the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood Tanzania (WRATZ) says; there is political will at the central government level, but the implementing of plans at district levels has not been prioritised. “Government still has to specifically show what they are doing to address this national tragedy in their development plans,” she urges.
