June 7, 2014Dr. Nanna Chidi–Emmanuel has spent over 21 years supporting and leading advocacy efforts to advance health programming in Nigeria and abroad. Known for championing holistic approaches to improving health outcomes, Dr. Nana is heavily invested in multisectoral engagements that empower people through life skills education, agriculture and entrepreneurship.
As the Director of Reproductive Health and Advocacy at the Centre for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA) from 2005-2011, Dr. Nanna facilitated a study tour to India for WRA Nigeria members to learn from WRA India’s experiences, and to adapt best practices in maternal, newborn and child health service delivery. Drawing from this experience, Dr. Nanna began providing technical assistance for states in Nigeria to improve their ambulance services and increase access to Emergency Obstetric Care.
In 2010, Dr. Nanna was appointed Chair of the WRA Nigeria Maternal Health Campaign, where she worked with stakeholders to develop and implement plans to improve maternal health in Nigeria. She joined the Board of Directors in 2012, and in 2015 was elected Chair of the Board.
Over the years, Dr. Nanna has committed personal resources to build, maintain and sustain the Alliance in Nigeria and engaged individual and organisational donors who share her commitment to advancing WRA mission in Nigeria. She also serves as the Executive Director and CEO of the Education Development Foundation for Excellence (EDFE) Nigeria and is on the Board of Plan international Nigeria.
