Star Showers

A Baby Shower for the World

November 15, 2013
Georgina Chapman Betsy White Ribbon Alliance Executive Director, Betsy McCallon, gets in to the party spirit at the launch of ‘Star Showers’ our new fund and awareness raising initiative.

There was amazing energy in the room for the launch of Star Showers last night in New York. Moms, moms-to-be, and a fantastic group of new supporters, including a few men, joined us for a baby shower in honor of Daphne Oz and moms-to-be around the world. Hosted by an incredible group of women – Sara Weinstein, Georgina Chapman, Georgina Bloomberg, Hilaria Baldwin, Denise Albert, Melissa Gerstein, Lynn Altman, Joanne Lipman, Casey Santiago, Amber Sabathia, and Latham Thomas.

Everyone was invited to feel fully pampered with onsite massages, an eyelash bar, and great give-aways from healthy lifestyle partners. Moms shared their secrets for looking fabulous, being active parents, and making a difference in the world in many and varied ways.

Star Showers has a simple message: every woman, everywhere should have a safe and healthy pregnancy and childbirth. Daphne Oz said what really inspired her to be involved in this issue is that 90% of all maternal deaths are preventable. As I spoke with guests throughout the night, this really resonated with everyone. Unlike other issues that seem intractable, everyone felt they could help to make a difference. And everyone can; it’s something we can all get involved in – we all know someone who’s pregnant, right? We can change the picture of maternal health in a generation – guests at baby showers can be part of making this happen by donating to White Ribbon Alliance via Star Showers and giving a gift towards safe birth for everyone – so that every new mom feels cared for when giving birth.

Our vision is that every pregnant celebrity – and every mom-to-be – joins up with Star Showers to make safe pregnancy and childbirth a reality for every woman.

P.S. Star Showers would never have been born without the patience and energy of our great friends Sara and Harrie at WC Philanthropy Group. I wanted to say a personal thank you to them for all their efforts in making this great idea come to life, as Sara said ‘when we first had this idea my first son had not been born, now I have two!’

The best things in life are worth waiting for (sometimes).
