Share Your Story of Birth
August 21, 2013
Having a baby is a private miracle and the source of much shared joy. Cultures everywhere have customs that make sure pregnant women are cherished, that birth is supported not only physically but spiritually and emotionally, and that newborns are the epicentre of care and concern while women have space to recover.
This month, we would like to invite you to share your narratives and tell us how people in your community mark these unforgettable moments with special customs, rituals and celebrations including:
- stories about love and care from mothers and sisters, friends and partners
- special foods and recipes for conception, pregnancy and birth
- dreams, prayers, lullabies, songs and poems
If you would like to participate, please submit 200 to 1,000 words before September 17th (firstname.lastname@example.org). We also welcome any related photographs.
If your submission is chosen, you will be credited in the book, which will be published on International Women’s Day, March 8th 2014.
