Boost for respectful care in Nigeria
September 10, 2013
White Ribbon Alliance Nigeria's campaign has received a boost.
Their campaign to include respectful care in all health facilities passed a huge milestone recently when the National Council for Health (NCH) approved the charter for respectful maternity care.
The NCH will implement the Charter across at Federal, State and Local Government levels. This was one of a series of revolutionary decisions taken by the NCH, which will significantly improve Nigeria's health sector.
National Coordinator of White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood in Nigeria, Tonte Ibraye said; “I am impressed with the resolutions passed, particularly, that approval was given to the Respectful Maternity Care Charter and its implementation across all the levels of care in the country. This has been our appeal at White Ribbon Alliance over the years and I believe if properly implemented, our mothers will be treated with respect and dignity in all health facilities and that will also encourage them to go to the health facility for medical care”.
Permanent Health Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Health, Ambassador Sani Bala, said “we are going to faithfully and effectively implement all the policies adopted at meeting.”
