Japanese Organization for International Cooperation in Family Planning

LOCATION: Japan

A Japan-based NGO, Japanese Organization for International Cooperation in Family Planning (JOICFP) is active in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), gender equality, and women’s empowerment. JOICFP strives to improve the health status of women, girls, and vulnerable groups around the world who are too often left behind. Celebrating more than 50 years since its establishment in 1968, JOICFP has spread its activities to 42 countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, where communities remain central to all efforts.

JOICFP envisions and is inspired by a world in which individuals and families have their basic human needs fulfilled, including SRHR, and where people enjoy good health and fulfill their potential based on dignity and equality. JOICFP is an international collaborative partner of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and proudly serves as its Tokyo Liaison Office.

Each year, JOICFP organizes a White Ribbon Run on International Women’s Day, which brings close to 4,000 people to “run for yourself, and for someone else.” This past March, JOICFP’s White Ribbon Run reached over 3,500 people from 14 countries. Participants had the option of joining the in-person run or engaging in a series of virtual activities. A portion of the money raised will go towards JOICFP’s project in Kenya with adolescent girls – raising awareness around SRHR, ending gender-based violence, and providing education around the prevention of STDs, AIDS, and cervical cancer.
