As one of the first doula organizations in Egypt, YourEgyptianDoula offers birth services to expecting families in Cairo, Egypt. They help expecting parents understand their rights to have an empowered birth experience because every family deserves high-quality, patient-centered, and evidence-informed healthcare. YourEgyptianDoula also conducts advocacy activities and campaigns. In 2020, they published the first-ever peer-reviewed publication on obstetric violence in Egypt and surrounding regions. In 2021, their week-long, multi-platform, multi-partner social media campaign engaged hundreds of thousands of women against obstetric violence, advocating for birthing people’s rights of bodily autonomy, informed consent and choices, companionship in childbirth, and more. In 2022, the organization joined policymakers and others to launch the first national initiative on Ending Obstetric Violence in Egypt.
YourEgyptianDoula also launched project RAHMY: Respectful Abuse-free Humanized Motherhood through Youth-Empowerment – introducing Shared Decision Making (SDM) as a tool in Respectful Maternal Care (RMC), to equip different decision-makers and health workers with best practices for improving quality and patient-centered SRHR services for young mothers during COVID-19, and beyond.
YourEgyptianDoula is honored to be the first White Ribbon Alliance affiliate in the Middle East and Northern Africa Region and hopes to expand their capacity and further their local and regional impacts in eliminating obstetric violence across the Region.
